Reflection

May 14, 2010

This was my reflection piece for the Talisman. Now we aren’t running those anymore so I thought I would just post it. Here it is:

Ten cups of water and some beans was all it took. These were the ingredients for happiness.
Every morning the sleepy yellow house was awakened at 7:45 a.m. It wasn’t the sun or a rooster that woke the girls, but the aroma of coffee. One at a time their feet would hit the cold wooden floor. They would travel step by step to the place where they would always convene- the kitchen. Sometimes there were scrambled eggs or oatmeal. The menu would change, but there was always coffee. It seemed to evoke conversation and unify in a way that nothing else could. When the coffee was gone or in their mug to-go, they would leave the house and travel up the hill for another day of classes. There was happiness at the start of every day. A heap of slightly wet beans was all that was left. There wasn’t even any more water.
